Oatmeal

It is only fitting that I begin my blog with a rant... :o)

My Lord! This is the nastiest stuff I have tasted so far. I truly do not know how they can pass this mess off as oatmeal. The Quaker would be ticked off if he knew about this.

Someone, anyone, please tell me how you make this stuff more palatable...

I don't know why people always start with the oatmeal as there first meal! Go read the discussions, and see that alot of people grow a fondness for it AFTER they have been on program for a while.

Try a S'Mores bar next, or a brownie, or honey mustard pretzels.

Keep on keeping on

Oatmeal is one of my favorites, but like you my first experience was not positive. Put your oatmeal packets away until week 3. After your tastebuds have become accustomed to MF, you will enjoy the maple brown sugar with a pinch or salt and a splenda packet. Don't give up on it yet.

LOL! Those were my exact words! I still don't eat it like oatmeal, but I can eat it as a bar. I also add a bit of SF syrup, caramel flavor, and it cuts that chemical, bitter taste. Recipe is on the boards. I think it's just 3T water, and microwave.

I have to add more water to it and make it kinda soupy. I do not like it thick at all.. I also add cinnamon to it. Now I have to admit, I don't care for the peach, the apple cinnamon is OK, but I really like the Maple Brown Sugar. I do find that they keep my belly full for a long time, so I do like that!

I agree with putting them away for a week or two, then trying them again. You won't believe it's the same stuff that you hated the first time. Honestly. Your taste buds DO change.

It tastes like GLUE at first. Move on to a food you like! Set it aside for now - don't let the Quaker (NOT) hold you back!

I guess I don't know why we think that the products here are going to taste the same as "regular" food. I agree with the comments here too...as far as eating the other stuff first and give your tastes a chance to adjust. I too, add more water, usually add a packet of Splenda to my oatmeal. I like the brown sugar and maple. I don't mind any of them actually. I also pre-soak my soups (all morning), makes the veggies/meat softer. I add Johnny seasoning to all my soups and sometimes add extra pre-cooked chicken or veggies to them. LOVE the bars, soy ranch chips, chili puffs....give yourself time to adjust to a different taste, drink your water and don't do a lot of exercise the first 2-3 wks. I walked...that was pretty much ALL I did the first couple weeks. The bod needs time to adjust to the low caloric intake. Hey...be patience, give it a chance...it's a great program!

Thanks for the advice ladies.

Oatmeal definitely was not my first meal. I read all of the comments advising against that. :o) I do not expect it to taste like regular food, but then again I didn't expect to eat liquid cardboard either.

I will put it away for a couple weeks and see how I like it then. For now, I am gonna pass. I couldn't even finish it this morning.

I have tried some of the bars and like each of them. I also like the hot chocolate. I will be trying to soup today (COB) that I soaked since last night and added part of my green (broccoli) to it. I am hoping it tastes wonderful.

I also feel like I am floating away from all the H20 I have consumed in the past few days.

Once again, I appreciate everyone that answered and hope that you are having a fabulous day!

I know some of the foods are a little gnarly. I advise against too much fussing about it. I am used to the oatmeal now after a month and one day when I am normal BMI and fully comfortable eating regular foods in moderation, I will be eating the REAL oatmeal. Meantime, as I gulp down my soupy MF oatmeal with a bit of Truvia, I see the size 6 jeans. The jeans , the jeans...worth every less than perfect bite!

I save my oatmeal for evening, when I really want something to eat. I add about 1/2 tsp baking powder to it, and 1 Tbs eggbeaters and make a pancake out of it. Walden Farms makes a really good syrup that has no cals/no carbs. It is the only way I can eat the oatmeal. I tried the regular pancakes, but the oatmeal ones are so much more satisfying when you feel like you need more to eat. Hunt around the discussion boards for oatmeal recipes for muffins and other things. You can use it for that.

LOL.......oatmeal was the first packet I tried and I almost cried, thinking that I just wasted a whole lot of money...........now, believe it or not, I have oatmeal almost every morning that I am home and then occasionally in the middle of the night at work......water, water and more water is the secret to the oatmeal. It will never compete with Quaker's but it is so much healthier!! Good luck....Dee

Someone shared an e-z one. Add just a few Tbsp. of water to a pack of oatmeal, make it into a log or a cookie shape, sprinkle a dash of cinnamon, then I put it on a piece of parchment paper (no sticking) on a baking sheet in my toaster-oven for about 7-10 minutes, and it's palatable-to me anyway.
