I saw a new commercial on the medifastnow.com site that MF & TSFL has put out in certain areas.  In the commercial the lady is coming back into the country and shows her ID to the airport dude.  He does a couple of double takes because she has lost so much weight.  That happened to me as I drove to briskly through Ohio a while back.  I had my drivers license picture taken the very month that I started MF.  I had not had it redone and the police officer had a very hard time believing the license belonged to me.  It took approx three trips to his car to decide to let me go.  He then walked away and came back and said by the way GOOD JOB!!  I had to promise to get my license updated as soon as I got home.  I did.  I posted the pictures of them side by side.  It truly happens, not just in the commercials!!
Keep at it and change your life,  become that new person!
I added two new pictures today.  I intended to add a picture of my puppy to show a friend.  He is my baby and I so love him but then I came up on a picture of another baby that I thought I would show off.  My car I purchased for 100% self this past fall.  I bought it when I had been at goal for 3 years.  Though I still struggle and have to constantly watch my weight, I do know I can't ever go back to being fat.  It is hard work but being fat was way harder and I won't ever forget that.  This car in my mind represented fun and freedom from being tied down by not feeling like "it", by not wanting anybody to see me and basically just allowing myself to eat myself to death.  PLUS IF I GET FAT I WON'T FIT.  Somebody said something to me about how impractical it was,  yep it is just for fun and just for me.  Finally. . .   Do it for you,  lose that weight just for you,  just so you can feel free and not care if you get somebody's attention!

Have you ever thought about how many decisions you make in a day?   Many are simply just what you do,  they are habit.  If you had to work today you wake up, climb out of the bed, get ready and go to work.  There isn't a lot of thought put into it, you just do it,  you have to.  Wait, you don't really have to,  but it was a decision that was made some time ago that you would work.  You have a kind of contract with your employer.  You show up and do a certain job that they need done and in return they give you something you need.  Do you realize though that when you wake up each morning you decide your mood, now granted things during the day may begin to influence that but that is also your decision.  You can decide when you wake up, in the spur of the moment, if it is a great day, a ok day, or one sucky day.  You decide.  Plus you can decide to change your mind about that at any point!

All day long we have decisions to make.  We decide constantly if we will eat and what we will eat.  Food is all around us,  easy, fast and believe me there has been a lot of money even in the produce aisle spent to figure out how to get you to decide the way the food industry would like you to decide.  But still the choice is yours.  How do you make these decisions?  You need to get some good solid self talk going on in your head.  Internalize some of the things you read here and from others that rings true and tell them to yourself.  Do not just hurry up and make the decision that feels good.  STOP and think.  I know many of you say you do things before you even know,  I think there was a decision made,  a super duper fast one because it was the comfortable one and the one we would all LIKE to make.  You hurry up and do it before you can talk yourself out of it.  Don't do that if you want success.  Stop!  think, center yourself.  Make the decision to support the bigger decision you made sometime ago.  That bigger decision was to regain your health.  You have to make little decisions all day long that support that bigger decision.  Primary decisions are the big decisions we make, to work, to regain our health, to save money.   Secondary decisions are the little decisions that are REQUIRED in order to achieve the primary ones.  Secondary decisions are to pass on whatever food pollution is the flavor of the day at work,  to not go shopping just because there is a sale ( I know blasphemy).  Remember though you can make that big decision (Primary) and that is wonderful but it is going to be the secondary, the day to day,  the moment to moment, that will achieve that Primary.  Use your self talk, repeat the great things you learn from each other in your head.  Temptation only lasts a few minutes if you will flee! and distract yourself.  Do not argue in your mind if you can or you can't.  The decision was made already,  remember when you made your Primary decision,  You made the decision that you can't.  Right?  Don't give up health and self esteem for a moment of pleasure.  Now remember way back int he beginning of this long rambly blog I mentioned something about just what you do.  If you make the good secondary decisions repeatedly and repeatedly and keep doing it soon it becomes a HABIT.  It will be just what you do!  How cool is that!  It takes a while.  If this wasn't work guys everybody would be skinny.  Look around you.   They ain't.  Eat like them and you will look like them.  So start right now,  this moment, don't wait until Monday or until tomorrow, to make the good secondary decisions you need to in order to achieve that primary one that we all have already made!  Don't let your guard down!  On weekends all the stops are pulled out on the advertisements and everybody offering you the flavor of the day.  REMEMBER nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.
I realized yesterday that in a few days it will be 4 years since I started MF/TSFL.  1 year in weight loss ( lost 165 lbs) and 3 at or below goal.  I was talking to my husband last night about it.  Who would have thought four years ago that I would be slim and that then I would coach others!  What I was doubtful about 4 years ago, I am more sure about now than most anything else I know.  The Take Shape for Life program is rock solid,  I find helping others get their lives back comes in right under GOD and Family.
Do I still have to work at staying slim.  Yep.  Sometimes it is easy and sometimes it is hard.  I am still have the same obsessive nature I had 4 years ago but now it is controlled.  I do know that I am never going back to fat. There is no free lunches,  for everything there is a cost.  The cost of me being slim is that somethings have to go.  My things and your things will be different, but rest assured that if you don't figure out what those things are and be willing to let go of them, you are going to continue to be their slave.  A slave to food.  Always be willing to go back to the 5 & 1 quickly if you don't lose a LITTLE excess within a couple of weeks.  If you don't, it will continue to go up and up.  Have a number in your mind that is rock solid that you absolutely can't go above without going on the 5 & 1.  Have a range of weight you want to be at, if you go over then you need to cut back and reign in.  If that becomes an issue you better look at what you might need to take out of your life.  This program is amazing, it works but it is the tool and you are the craftsman.  You will get out of it what you put into it.  If you are wishy washy and go at it half heartedly that is the kind of losses if any you will see.  If you go at it like your life depends on it, because it does,  do it even if in the beginning you don't understand why, you will get amazing results.  The longer you stick with it 100% the stronger you will grow!  The easier the journey becomes.  If in your mind you say, nope, that isn't what I am going to have today, soon the argument doesn't even start but if you begin to argue and you start to give in, then like a spoiled child the argument becomes an everyday thing.  Draw the line in the sand and say no more.  Tell yourself there will be no excuses, there is always a way to not eat off plan,  just don't allow any excuses, even if you have to watch others eat, or be hungry for a while.  Hunger really isn't an emergency.  You can wait.  You are worth the wait.  Well, anyway,  I think I have started to ramble,  I just wanted to mark the occasion of 4 years in.  I do still eat 2-3 MF meals a day and I still have my favorites and they are NORMAL food to me.  Keep going, never give up and point that scale towards skinny!
Today is my 3 year anniversary.  I started creating health in my life 3 years ago.  I was much more sick then than I could even imagine.  Looking back at pictures from when I was at the beach it is surprising that something really terrible didn't happen.  On a lighter note though,  about 160 lbs lighter note!  LOL  today is my son's wedding rehearsal.  3 years ago we celebrated his HS graduation.  I planned a big shin dig and I did a lot of delegating.  I wasn't physically able to do a whole lot though even in my mind I didn't admit that.  Now I have planned a very nice wedding and have done it almost entirely myself.  Big changes. . .   I will write more when I have more time.  I just wanted to say if you are starting this program, get with Take Shape for Life.  Medifast is wonderful and is the tool but you need to do it for life.  Find a coach,  one who you know will work with you as you work it out.  Not just any coach will do.  There is many great coaches who work tirelessly to help you work through all the mental garbage that we have accumulated over the years.  Then work,  work this like it is your job.  Work it like your life depends on it, because frankly it does.  First off your quality of life depends on it and then your very health depends on it.  Don't white wash the small decisions you make every day.  Small decisions are the ones that decide whether you reach the major goals in your life.  Do you want it?  Do you want to feel great and look as good as you possibly can.  Do you want to throw away your pills and be free?  Then do it!  Work this tool.  After 3 years I am more sure than I have ever been that this is the best tool on the market.  It is what we looked for.   Somebody to tell us what to eat, and how much to eat and basically cook it for us!  Healthy fast food guys.  Here it is.  Claim it for yourself.
I recently went on a week long vacation.  I took my two younger children and we just kinda took off with several things in mind we wanted to do and some empty time to fill as we saw fit.  I visited with a couple of friends on the way and we just simply had an awesome time.  There was something different about this vacation that gives me such a wonderful sense of accomplishment.  It is the first vacation that I gained no weight.  NONE!    I actually lost a couple of pounds.  This is a FIRST even after almost 3 years of being on the journey to my optimal health.  I always have gained some, even if just a couple pounds on vacation.  What was different this time?  Well we still ate out at least once a day.  I still enjoyed the food where ever we were.  This time though I decided before I left that I was going to come home as healthy as when I left.  I chose as healthy as possible,  I left bread alone, because it simply has lost it fascination to me, I ate very small portions and I continued to drink my water.  We walked a LOT, and some days I still did my regular exercise program.  So progress was made, even now after all this time, I still love this program and I am still learning how to make it work for life.  I have a lot planned for summer, I can not allow scale creep to be a part of it.  Sooo  ahhh  a sweet victory.  On to the next one. . .
Generally speaking when people begin a diet program or exercise program they do it for negative reasons.  Meaning they are doing it to correct a problem, such as they feel lousy or they want to lower their blood pressure, or the doctor has gotten on to them about something, maybe something embarrassed them.  These are negative reasons, meaning you are doing them to correct a problem.  These are all good reasons to lose weight but they are generally speaking, emotional reasons.  Once you have lost a little weight or you feel you have corrected your eating issues your motivation is gone.  As soon as the blood pressure begins to go down and you feel some better,  no reason to say no to your favorites any more.  This may have been the reason you started but it is not enough to carry you through a life time of healthy eating.  You were trying to correct a health issue.  Now is the time to change your goals to positive reasons.  I would like you to make a list of where you are right now.  You are going to have to be brutally honest with yourself.  You need to know where you are so that you know where you would like to be.  How is your blood work,  how fit are you, be specific how far up hill could you walk without being winded,  You might need to test yourself, how much do you still crave nutritional pollution,  (high fat, high carb, high sugar foods)  meaning just how much progress have you made in this journey.  What is your BMI,  not just is it within your range of healthy but  is it high or low within range.  Is that a healthy BMI, or is it overweight, obese, or morbidly obese.  Be brutally honest with yourself,  what is your chances of disease.  Are you at risk, high risk, or doomed.  Don't kid yourself people, a LITTLE fat increases your chances.  Once you know where you are, then you can assess where you would like to be.  Make another list of why you would like to be healthy.  What does healthy mean to you?  How much do you want that.  Is health what you want most?  Do you want to be as healthy and free of pain as possible all throughout your days.  Do you want to achieve your optimal health. Your optimal health and my optimal health are two different things,  if you have something that limits you and diet nor exercise will completely correct that doesn't mean you can not still be at the best that you can be.  YOU CAN BE not what I can be.  Get it.  Be the best that you can be.  Control what you can control.  Make no mistake people you can be in control of most, of your health issues.  Bad choices, unhealthy lifestyles lead to most of adult disease.  Not all, but most.  So make your list, be specific, such as I want to weigh. . ., and I want to be able to climb this mountain behind my house and not be winded,  like that,  write down exactly what you want.  Or I want to fit into a certain size or pair of pants, be specific.  Then set a reasonable time to achieve these goals.  Check yourself often, not just to see if your are there but to see if you are progressing!  Once you reach your goal, look at it,  was that goal my best, can I do better, what needs improvement.

With that done,  you know where you are and you know where you want to be.  You have chosen to CREATE health, not to correct a health issue.  You began at a place where you were not healthy and you are working towards a healthy place so you are CREATING health.  You have taken back control.  This is the major separation in our wonderful program and all the rest.  WE are taking control and making the decisions with POSITIVE goals and not negative meaning simply to correct a issue.

Ok now you have your goals and you are cruising along and all of a sudden you are confronted with a major temptation.  Somebody brings in some deep fried ooeey gooey high fructose corn syrup that makes the sweat on your upper lip pop.  Humm you have to make a decision.  In your mind you say,  I sure do love deep fried. . . .  But it is not in line with the goals that I have set,  I would really like to have just a small 12 inch piece of that ooey gooey . . .  Hey! what if I can afford the calories,  oh wait though this isn't about calories IT IS ABOUT MY OPTIMAL HEALTH  humm,  I want the ooey gooey  but I want optimal health,  which do I want more?  Ahhhh  Which is more important to me?  My goal of being my best or ooey gooey that lasts roughing 5 minutes.  Humm.  Now this is where you choose people.  I want you to lay it out to yourselves,  I am choosing instant satisfaction over a lifetime of health.  In order to choose Optimal health we have to start where we are, and make choices that we don't like!  I do not like to sweat like a hog for an hour each morning but I CHOOSE to because I want the results,  I want to LOOK, I am not ashamed of that,  and feel great.  I can only be the best I can be.  I have to work at that, and I have to make the hard decisions.  Sometimes what I want at the moment is in direct conflict with what I want for long term.  How silly and immature would it be to go out partying the night before a big final, that you have to pass to pass a key class.  Pretty stupid, but wait, what if I really wanted to.  It doesn't matter it would still be pretty stupid.  You have to choose.  Choose not once,  not just when you make the list,  not just when you get out of bed each morning, but all day long every day.  Life is full of choices, we make them all day long,  we USED to choose bad and immaturely.  Lets grow up!  Lets make the hard decisions,  lets be our best right where we are right now.  If you weigh 250 lbs, you can't choose to be 150 today, but you can choose to make the decisions that will get you to 150 tomorrow, and that makes you the best today that you can be.

Ok so lets say you didn't do so hot and you chose the ooey gooey.  Now what?  You get out that list,  look it over,  are those the things you really want or was ooey gooey more important.  Think it through,  over think it, ponder on it,  keep your goals in mind,  don't be emotional about it, be intellectual,  it is just a piece of ooey gooey.  You made a bad choice,  now learn from your mistake,  make a plan for the next time,  does this issue get in your way frequently,  make a plan for how to get around it,  educate yourself,  ALWAYS be prepared to pull back, think, analysis, and regroup.  Learning, becoming wiser,  this is a journey,  we are on it for life,  we are making mistakes, scraping our knees but we get up and we continue on toward optimal health!  The key though is to not continue to make the same mistakes over and over!  Make a plan,  address the issue and move forward.  Cut through the bull.  We are really good at handing ourselves a line of bull.  It is simple, it is either moving us towards our goal of optimal health or further away.

Emotional eating.  Sigh.  Most of us have been guilty of this some time in our lives.  What is the answer.  It is simple, not always simple to live with but a simple answer.  Recognize it for what it is,  recognize that food does not heal, cure or change,  it only nurtures your body.  Used for anything thing else and it is a disease causer!  You must stop when you are desiring to eat at a time not normal, or a food not normal, or when you doubt that you could be hungry, and THINK,  center yourself,  take deep breathes, ask yourself what is going on here.  Why do I REALLY feel the way I do.  Give yourself time,  find something to do though,  don't just sit around and think about the food that you don't want to eat.  Clean something, call a friend,  exercise,  go for a walk,  kick the dog but don't just sit there and think about what you DON'T want to eat.  (Don't you dare kick the dog)  Begin right where you are!  To break the chains of emotional eating.  It is one choice at a time.  That is how you CHANGE a habit,  one choice at a time,  one decision to not give in.  Because today is the day,  this is your time,  there is no better time and tomorrow never ever comes.

Ok lets choose today,  right now to be the best that we can be today.  Which means I gotta shut up and go sweat. . .  Ugggg.

Hey I just realized it is my 2 yr anniversary!!!   The absolute best
decision I ever very hesitantly made. Wow!! 2 yrs   like I have told
you time is so fleeting let's be taking care of our selves while it
passes.  U know I feel 20 yrs younger than I did 2 yrs ago.  O m g.
What a thought.  I bet Chanda will send me a cake!!  My life has
changed so much in the last two years. I am down to two children to
school. Never dreamed I wouldn't be living in different place. Just
thinking back on the things I have done that I couldn't have if I
hadn't did some research on lapband surgery for a friend and
discovered mf is mind boggling.  Even the things that I could have physically done I couldn't have put myself out there to do emotionally.

2 years gone and 165 lbs.  Mind blowing isn't it?
Today my husband is having a biopsy on his prostate.  I am of course very nervous about all this, apparently 25% chance it will be malignant.  I know the prognosis for prostate cancer is good USUALLY.  Of course that beats the heck out of the alternative.  Also Thursday we are supposed to close on a house and there has been some difficulties with it.  In the past I would have just ate myself into a stupor.  I could do that now but you know it doesn't hold the fascination the draw or the temptation it used to.  Could those chains be loosening.  Oh I do hope so.  You know I believe the heavier we are the deeper set our bad habits are and the more time we need to break them.  So the Lord in all his wisdom knows how long we need from start to finish.  Am I finished, oh not by any means but maybe there is some signs that I have made a good start.  Under stress now you are more likely to find me doing 30 minutes of AB work as opposed to 30 days of Dairy Queen patronage!  I guess both are AB work!  LOL  So take heart your chains will loosen also.  You just have to be sure that you are strengthen the correct habit and weakening the one you want rid of.
I started Medifast in August 2007.  I weighed 288 lbs and felt desperate to find a way to control what seemed so uncontrollable to me.  I ordered only 2 weeks of MF.  I had never heard of the program nor knew anybody who had done the program.  I was researching weight loss surgery for a friend and happened up on it.  The food arrived and I was excited to get started.  The next morning I tried the oatmeal first and thought ohh that is bad.  I searched the boards and started finding recipes to use for the foods I didn't like.  The first week was tough and I might have quit except I had invested my money in it.  After a few days I weighed myself and that did it!  I knew this was the program and that I would make it.  In the beginning I still didn't have the confidence to believe that I could go all the way to slim but as time passed and I learned the new skills needed to live a healthy life style I knew this time was my time and that I was going all the way.  A funny thing is after several months my sister tried that same oatmeal that I thought was so bad and told me how good it was.  I thought what? and tried it again.  It is my favorite MF food now and a day without oatmeal is just all eschew.  My advice to any people on this program is to find a coach and a good support team.  If you have one and they don't support you look for another.  Support is key.  It is one of the things that sets this program apart from the others.  Stay true to the program.  Going on and off just makes it so much harder than it has to be and remember healthy eating is the way it has to be for life or you will simply gain your weight back.  Be on a program to improve you health and life not on a diet that you are simply following until the weight is gone and you can go back to eating the way you were.  At the beginning of my 13 month I reached goal.  Losing 148 lbs.  By Christmas I was down to 123 and the lowest I believe I need to be.  I maintain between 123 and 128lbs for a total of 165 lbs lost.  I try to improve my fitness level and stay true to the program for life.  Lets regain our lives and our potential one little white packet at a time.  Believe me if I can do it so can you!
